“The situation now is that Turkey is dead and will never rise again, because we have destroyed it's moral strength, the Khilafah and Islam” – George Curzon, British Foreign Minister House of Commons after the Lausanne Treaty of July 24th 1924
Following years of plotting against the central Muslim rule by sowing the seeds of Arab nationalism (via the British agent King Sharif of Makkah) and Turkish nationalism (via the Young Turks Movement), Monday 3rd March 1924 (28th Rajab 1342AH) marked the abolishment of 1350 years of successive Islamic Rule. Instrumental in this was a member of the Young Turks who became the first president of secular Turkey, the Jewish Turk, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
As a result more than 50 nation states have emerged. Muslim lands have been invaded and occupied. Muslims have been and continue to be tortured, oppressed, raped, imprisoned and murdered. Established Islamic principles are under attack and Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam has repeatedly been insulted. Muslims have turned to the governments that rule over them for help, sought United Nations intervention and even resorted to supporting man-made systems. Yet the problems persist.
In a testing time for Muslims, it is essential that our roots in the origins of the call of Muhammad
sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam be revisited. By examining the difficulties faced and steps taken thereafter we will be able to clearly define our objective and derive valuable lessons.
Khilafah (Islamic State) is used to denote the government of the Muslim State. Khaleefah (Caliph) refers to the successor (in a line of successors) to Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam's position as the political, military and administrative leader of all the Muslims. The prophetic role is excluded as Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was the final Prophet of Allah Azzawajal.
The very first Khilafah was established by Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam in Madinah after the hijrah. As varying incidents occurred, Divinely guided laws were formulated from the Qur'an and Sunnah and thus became incorporated into the ruling system of Madinah – the Shari'ah (Islamic Law). At the demise of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, all Islamic Law, either with clear reference or in principle, was legislated. For every period of Islamic rule thereafter, this Shari'ah was followed. Duly, justice prevailed and Muslims were protected.
“Indeed, the Imam (Khaleefah) is a shield, from behind whom you fight and by whom you are protected” (Sahih Muslim)
The functionality of the Khilaafah includes the protection of Islam from deviations and attacks; the establishment of justice, including punishments for crimes, based upon the Qur'an and Sunnah; ensuring the welfare and protection of its Muslim and dhimmi (kaafir) citizens; defending the boundaries of the State, using force where necessary; organising jihad against any non-Muslim government that prevents Muslim da'wah from entering its land and the collection and distribution of zakaah and spoils of war according to the Qur'an and Sunnah.
With a system that frees people from subservience to other humans, tyrants and oppressors who set themselves up as lords beside Allah Azzawajal would take serious objection to its implementation. In the earliest days of the call of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, when no compulsory salaah, zakah or fasting was ordained, he r was violently opposed by the ruling elite of Makkah. This opposition, though mostly violent, continued in various forms against the successive Islamic empires thereafter and resulted in the events of 3rd March 1924.
"We must put an end to anything which brings about any Islamic unity between the sons of the Muslims. As we have already succeeded in finishing off the Khilafah, so we must ensure that there will never arise again unity for the Muslims, whether it be intellectual or cultural unity.” (George Curzon, again)
With the destruction of the Khilaafah being insufficient, the colonialists wanted to ensure that the State would never rise again. They therefore carved up Muslim lands using a pen and ruler leaving Muslims engaged in petty nationalistic issues; installed, supported and continue to support oppressive tyrants over Muslim lands who serve their agenda; introduced and support un-Islamic concepts within the Muslim world such as nationalism, socialism and secularism; economically subjugated the Muslim world so that the sole objective occupying people is putting bread on the table; created toothless organisations such as the Arab League and Organisation of Islamic countries (OIC) that have hopelessly failed to address let alone solve any Muslim issues and; implemented a colonial educational system that steers many Muslim graduates in a direction opposite to Islam.
Whilst we firmly believe that the democratic route is a grave error, the mere mention of Shari'ah has the kuffaar rushing around to gather a “coalition of the willing”. Algeria (1990's), Palestine (2008) and Afghanistan (2001) bear testament to this.
"Whosoever does not judge by that which Allah U has revealed, such are disbelievers” (TMQ Surah Al Ma’idah: 44) “such are oppressors" (TMQ Surah Al Ma’idah: 45) “such are transgressors" (TMQ Surah Al Ma’idah: 47)
A common misconception is that the Saudi Arabian and Iranian governments look to the welfare of Muslims and Islam - a great deception indeed! Neither has taken on the murderous challenge posed by the West's war on Islam, despite their possession of huge military arsenals. Neither has made any real attempt to free Masjid Al Aqsa from the clutches of the savage Zionist Jews. Both nationalistic regimes have Muslim blood on their filthy hands and implement selective Shari'ah rulings thereby trying to fool the Muslims into believing that they are applying Islamic Law!
Every other Muslim land is governed by man-made systems and we therefore have no place on the face of the earth where the Shari'ah fully implemented. The criterion for Dar ul Islam (Land of Islam) or Dar ul kufr (Land of disbelief) are the laws that are implemented and not the religion of the citizens. One can therefore have an Islamic State where the Muslims are a minority yet the applied law is that of the Shari'ah (Eg. Muslim Spain) or one can have a land with a majority Muslim populace where the man-made laws are applied (the entire Muslim world today).
"The rule is for none but Allah" (TMQ Surah Al An’am: 57)
All man-made systems are incompatible with the Shari'ah as they place Allah Azzawajal's right to legislate with humans. It is therefore erroneous to say the least when some Muslims insist that we use democratic, social, communist or other processes to establish the Shari'ah and that this can be achieved without struggle and loss of life, when in fact any notion of establishing an Islamic State is met with violence and terror by Allah Azzawajal's enemies.
The only way to regain Muslim honour and dignity is by working for the establishment of the Khilafah. This act is fardh (obligatory) based on the Qur'an, Sunnah and consensus of the Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum.
1) “And rule between them by that which Allah Azzawajal revealed to you, and do not follow their vain desires away from the truth which came to you". (TMQ Surah Al Ma’idah: 48)
Allah Azzawajal has ordered Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam to rule between Muslims by His Shari’ah. An order of Allah Azzawajal to Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam is an order to the entire Ummah, unless there is evidence which limits the order to him only
2)“Whoso dies whilst there was no bay'ah (allegiance) on his neck (to a Khaleefah), he dies a death of jahiliyyah" (Sahih Muslim)
This bay'ah is solely for the Khaleefah
3) The general consensus of Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum manifested itself at the passing of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam. Despite the obligation of the burying the dead, the Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum, without objection, engaged themselves in appointing a Khaleefah, delaying the burial of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam for two days!
We must therefore strive to the best of our ability for this common goal, bearing in mind the juristic principle that states that whatever obligation cannot be accomplished except with another thing or means, that thing or means in itself becomes an obligation until the obligation is accomplished. Any Muslim groups or individuals who are working in this area require our physical, financial, verbal and moral support.
“The Prophethood will last among you for as long as Allah Azzawajal wills, then Allah Azzawajal would take it away. Then it will be (followed by) a Khilafah Raashida (ruling according to the ways of Prophethood). It will remain for as long as Allah Azzawajal wills, then Allah Azzawajal would take it away. Afterwards there will be a hereditary leadership which will remain for as long as Allah Azzawajal wills, then He will lift it if He wishes. Afterwards, there will be biting oppression, and it will last for as long as Allah Azzawajal wishes, then He will lift it if He wishes. Then there will be a Khilafah Raashida according to the ways of the Prophethood (Musnad Ahmad)
Prophethood ended with the demise of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
Khilaafah Rashida was the rule of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali radiallaahu 'anhum.
Hereditary leadership were the Umayyad, Abbasid and Uthmaani eras.
Biting oppression is what we are currently living under.
Glad tidings lie ahead, Insha Allah!
